A LITTLE KNOW-HOW GOES A LONG WAY
How to List & Sell
Clear listings. Fair space for every seller. A simple way to keep your availability current.
To publish a real sale ad, use My Workdesk. The sample-ad tool linked at the bottom is a separate practice space: it does not create a public listing or save anything to your account.
A ONE-MINUTE INTRODUCTION
Before your first listing
Each card is a browsing group. Within each browsing group are categories, which are further divided into subcategories.
For example, Meat & Poultry is a browsing group. It contains categories such as Beef, Pork, and Chicken. Within those categories are subcategories for ground meat, various cuts, and whole or half animals, where applicable. For example: Meat & Poultry → Beef → Ground beef.
- Each category has its own ad-space allowance. The allowance applies to the category, not to the browsing group as a whole. In each category, use one general ad or one ad per subcategory. For example, a Beef ad does not use the ad space available for Pork or Chicken. Hides and the entire Wool & Fiber section each allow up to five active ads per seller.
- Keep similar items together. If you have several similar items for sale, put the total quantity in one ad and update it as items sell.
- Choose up to five photos. Use your own photos, the optional labeled AHR image, or a text-only listing.
- Keep availability current. Ads last one calendar month. Renew in the final 14 days; reminders are planned for 14, 7, and 3 days before expiration. Expired ads stay in your private saved listings.
Live posting checks enforce category limits. Automatic reminder emails are still planned.
Your listing, step by step
- Pick a product category. Choose the browsing group, then the category that fits your ad. You may also choose a subcategory.
For example, to advertise ground beef, select Meat & Poultry as the browsing group, Beef as the category, and Ground beef as the optional subcategory.
In this example, in addition to your Beef ad, you could also create ads for your Pork and Chicken. Each animal type has its own category within this browsing group and therefore its own separate ad-space allowance.
- Tell buyers what is available. Add a title, price, quantity, description, and your public town or ZIP code. Keep your street address private; arrange pickup details directly.
- Add photos and delivery choices. Choose a featured image and up to four additional images. Let buyers know if delivery or a meeting place is available.
- Preview before publishing. Check both the search card and full listing. Go back to edit, save a draft, or publish when ready.
- Manage it from My Listings. Update availability, end a sold-out listing, renew an active ad, or reuse an expired ad.
Seasonal products & agricultural events
American Home Range™ promotes and supports local agricultural activities and direct agricultural connections. Listings for firewood, locally grown flowers, fresh seasonal greenery, Christmas trees, natural harvest decorations, and agricultural visits are welcome.
AHR also welcomes advertisements for corn mazes, pumpkin patches, hayrides, and agricultural fall festivals. Listings must accurately represent the agricultural goods, services, or activities being offered.
It is prohibited to label or present an exclusively non-agricultural event, service, or item as an agricultural activity in order to advertise it on AHR. For example, the terms “Fall Festival” or “Harvest Festival” may not be used to advertise Halloween parties, trick-or-treating, haunted houses, haunted trails, or other Halloween or horror-themed promotions. These promotions are not permitted on AHR.
Altered spellings, symbols, images, links, or other means of disguising prohibited content may not be used to evade this rule. Members are encouraged to report suspected violations through Contact Us or by emailing [email protected].
Listing review, reports, and automatic screening will be connected before public posting opens.
One general ad—or separate specific ads
Posting allowances apply separately to each category within a browsing group. For example, Meat & Poultry contains separate categories for Beef, Pork, Lamb, Goat, Chicken, Turkey, and Other poultry. In this example, you may have Beef, Pork, and Chicken ads active at the same time because each category has its own allowance. Each category also has its own subcategories—for example, Ground beef under Beef, Chops under Pork, and Whole chicken under Chicken.
Within each product category, choose one approach. A general ad covers the category as a whole. Specific ads each cover a different subcategory. You cannot keep a general ad and specific ads active in the same product category at the same time.
The examples below illustrate how the same general-or-specific rule applies within a category:
| Example | Active Ads allowed |
|---|---|
| Beef + Pork + Chicken | One general ad in each category at the same time |
| Pork · no subcategory | One general Pork ad |
| Pork · specific cuts | One Chops ad, one Sausage ad, one Ground Pork ad, and so on |
| Chicken | One general Chicken ad OR one per subcategory; a Pork ad does not use this space |
Exceptions to the usual posting limit
- Hides: up to five active ads per seller across all hides, with up to five photos per ad.
- Wool, fleece & fiber: up to five active ads per seller across the entire Wool & Fiber section, with up to five photos per ad.
Each exception is a total for that section, not five ads per subcategory. Separate ads can show different individual hides, fleeces, or fiber lots.
For example, if you have 20 similar pigs available, put the quantity in one relevant ad and update it as animals sell. Different towns or photos do not create extra allowances.
Drafts and expired listings do not use active-ad space. Publishing, renewing, or relisting must fit your active-ad allowance.
Profile photos
Buyer profiles may have one photo. Seller and Buyer & Seller profiles may have up to three photos, with one main profile picture. Use the crop controls to zoom and position a round profile picture or a listing-card image. Your original photo is kept so you can reframe it later. Click profile photos to enlarge them; close the enlarged view with its Close button or Escape. These are separate from the five photos allowed on a Farmstand or Marketplace ad. Choose photos you have permission to share. In this design preview, photos are not published or permanently saved.
Business hours & availability
Every seller, including processors and feedlots, may publish regular business hours, weekly or alternate-week schedules, availability start/end dates, and single-day or date-range closures. Use “From” and “Through” dates to close for a whole vacation in one entry, including both dates. Leave “Through” blank for a single day. Overlapping exception ranges are not allowed. Farmstands can keep a different schedule from the business. Service capacity and appointments must still be confirmed directly.
Who can see location and contact details?
Window shoppers can browse listings and see your producer name and town or general area. Specific locations, intersections, map pins, directions, and contact information are for signed-in members only—even when you choose to share those details on your listing or profile. Your private account address is never shared automatically.
Keep phone numbers, email addresses, street addresses, exact directions, and contact links out of public titles, previews, and photos. Use the dedicated member-only fields. Member-only access controls protect full ad details. Contact the member directly to confirm availability and arrangements.
Choose your public business location
Every seller, including processors and feedlots, can keep their exact location private and show only a town / ZIP, or choose to publish a nearby intersection or a business / pickup address alongside their town / ZIP. Review the map and confirm any exact location before sharing it. Private account addresses are never copied into public fields automatically. Farmstand visiting details have separate sharing choices. These are preview controls; address autocomplete and permanent profile storage are not connected yet.
Advertise a farmstand on your profile
On your seller profile, select “I have a farmstand to advertise” and describe what you generally sell in your own words. Check your open weekdays and enter hours for each day, including split opening periods. Choose every week or every other week (with a first open date), seasonal dates, and single dates or date ranges for closures or special hours. Select your local time zone. Buyers can use Find a Farmstand to search by location and radius, without product categories. This is a profile feature, separate from your individual product ads. You may upload up to five farmstand photos total: choose one featured photo and up to four additional photos. A text-only farmstand listing is also welcome. Farmstand photos are separate from your profile photos and the five-photo Marketplace ad allowance.
Public farmstand listings say “Ask about payment options.” Share accepted methods and payment instructions privately. Leave payment methods out of public descriptions; never post cash storage details or collection schedules. Payment methods are not search filters, but public text can still be read or collected.
Keep hours and seasonal closures current. Provide the nearest intersection in your public town/state area, or opt to publish the full farmstand address instead. The intersection is required unless you publish a full address. Check the public location in Google Maps and confirm it; correct an unclear match before sharing. Optional map coordinates can pinpoint the nearest intersection or stand you choose, and will be public too. A seller’s confirmation does not mean AHR independently verified the location. Schedules and descriptions are optional. In the current design preview, farmstand details are demonstrations and are not permanently saved or published.
Photos: five per ad, with one featured image
Upload up to five photos: one featured image on the search card and four more in the full listing. Small thumbnails show buyers there is more to see. Search cards stay a consistent size.
Use photos you have permission to share. A text-only listing is welcome. You may also choose the optional AHR farm-family image, clearly labeled as a generic image rather than a photo of your farm or product.
Switching to the generic image or text-only display keeps your uploaded photos available unless you explicitly remove them. In My Workdesk, saved drafts and uploaded photos stay in your account. In the sample-ad practice tool, reloading or leaving clears your practice work.
Expiration, renewal & reminders
Each ad lasts one calendar month. For example, an ad published November 10 expires December 10. Renewal opens 14 days before expiration. Renewing adds one month from the existing expiration date, so renewing early in that window preserves your remaining time.
Reminder emails are planned for 14, 7, and 3 days before expiration. Renewing replaces the old reminder schedule. Ended or Expired ads stop receiving renewal reminders.
Renewing keeps the original Listed date and updates Availability confirmed. If you run out, use Mark sold out / End now instead of waiting for expiration.
Planned automatic emails: renewals, messages & buyer requests
- Renewal reminders: planned for your verified account email 14, 7, and 3 days before an active ad expires. Renewal replaces the previous schedule. Ended or Expired ads receive no further reminders.
- New inquiries and replies: a future automatic email would alert you after a new message is saved to your AHR inbox. Sign in to read and respond; private message contents are not included in the email.
- Matching ISO requests: enable Looking For seller alerts and choose the categories, subcategories, radius, or service area you supply. In-app matches are available now; email notices and daily digests are planned.
Use your account’s email preferences to manage each type separately. Each eligible event is tracked to prevent duplicate notifications; eligibility is checked again before sending.

These controls and email templates are ready to review. Live account storage, scheduled queue processing, and an email sender are not connected yet; the preview does not send emails.
Expired listings & saved drafts
An expired ad leaves public search and moves to your private Expired Listings. You can reuse its text, photos, and delivery choices, with edits if needed. Relisting starts a new Listed date and a new one-month period.
A saved draft is separate from your published ad. Resume the draft from My Listings, preview it again, and publish explicitly when ready. Editing or saving a draft does not renew your live ad.
Use My Workdesk to reopen saved drafts and manage published, ended, and expired ads. Practice ads from the sample tool are never added to My Workdesk.
Practice first, or create a real ad
The sample is a demonstration only. It uses the same guided fields as the real form, but never publishes an ad, creates a real listing, or saves work to your account. Reloading clears it.
